Visa requirements

  • Most travelers can get:
  • Visa on arrival at OR
  • Online eVisa (recommended): Tanzania Immigration website (immigration.go.tz)
  • A standard tourist visa is for 30 days.

Vaccines and health

Yellow Fever certificate is required only if you arrive from a country with Yellow Fever risk. Yellow Fever certificate is not required if flying directly from Europe or USA to Tanzania. Although not necessary, the following vaccines are recommended: Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, and Tetanus booster, Malaria prevention (tablets and mosquito repellents). Please consult your travel agent for the list of Yellow Fever required countries.

Money and payments

Tanzanian Shillings (TZS) is the local currency of Tanzania. USD is widely accepted for hotels, tours and national parks. ATMs are available in all cities and major towns e.g. Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Moshi, Mwanza and Zanzibar). It is recommended that you carry some cash with you. Credit cards are also widely accepted in all major supermarkets, outlets, hotels and lodges.

Transport tips

  • Domestic flights are reliable and easy to access. Major ones include Coastal, Precision Air and Air Tanzania.

  • In cities: use Bolt, hotel taxis, or reputable taxi companies.
  • Avoid walking alone late at night in cities.

  • Light breathable clothing
  • A warm layer for early-morning safaris
  • Good walking/hiking shoes
  • Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses
  • Insect repellent
  • Power bank. There are frequent power outages in some areas
  • Waterproof bag for rainy season

Mobile and internet

  • You can get your local SIM card for your local phone use from service providers such as Vodacom, Airtel and Yas. These are easily available at the airport and major towns.
  • It is also possible to get eSIM from some providers.

Safety tips

Tanzania is generally safe, but:

  • Watch out for pickpockets in busy streets.
  • Don’t display your valuables openly.
  • Use certified Bozeman Tanzania Adventures tour guides.
  • Follow park rules when near wildlife.
  • Drink bottled or filtered water.

  • Tanzanians are generally friendly; greetings are important.
